What is a non-attended cremation?

A non-attended cremation, sometimes called a direct cremation, takes place privately without a formal funeral service, viewing or mourners present at the crematorium.

We bring the person who has died into our care, complete the required documentation and arrange the cremation. Their ashes are then returned to the person responsible for the arrangements.

Family and friends can still hold a memorial, wake or gathering separately if they wish. This can happen at a time and place that suits them, or there does not need to be a formal service at all. It’s entirely your choice.

This option may suit people who:

Do not want a traditional funeral

Want to keep funeral costs manageable

Do not want to pay for funeral features they will not use

Prefer to hold a private memorial later

Need to make arrangements from another location

Have limited contact with the person who has died

Are acting as an executor, solicitor or authorised representative

Want a straightforward cremation with clear costs

Whatever your circumstances or relationship to the person who has died, our team will provide practical guidance without judgement or pressure.

Why does cremation pricing vary?

The cost of cremation depends on the type of farewell being arranged and what the quoted price includes.

A traditional funeral may include a chapel service, funeral vehicles, celebrant or clergy fees, flowers, audiovisual services, catering and a more elaborate coffin. These choices can be important to some families, but they are not necessary for the cremation itself.

A non-attended cremation separates the cremation from any memorial or gathering. This removes many of the ceremonial costs while ensuring the person who has died is cared for professionally and respectfully.

Some low advertised prices may also exclude necessary items such as:

Transfer into care

After-hours collection

Mortuary care

Crematorium fees

Death registration

The official Government Death Certificate

How the arrangement works

1

Check that we can service the location

Enter the postcode and tell us where the person who has died is currently located. Our ability to assist depends on both the location and how soon the person needs to be transferred into care.

If the person is in a hospital or with the Coroner and can remain there safely, there may be more flexibility when arranging a transfer from a regional or more distant location.

If the person is at home, in aged care or somewhere else where transfer is more time-sensitive, we may need to confirm that we can arrange collection within an appropriate timeframe before you proceed.

For some regional or longer-distance locations, additional transport costs may apply. We will always confirm availability and any additional cost with you before arrangements are finalised.
